The 247Garden 1-inch PEX-A x 1-inch Female Copper Sweat Elbow is a premium-quality brass plumbing fitting engineered to connect 1-inch PEX-A tubing to 1-inch copper pipe at a 90-degree angle. Designed for professional performance, this fitting combines the durability of lead-free brass with the proven reliability of ASTM F1960 cold expansion technology. NSF certified for potable water, it provides a secure, leak-resistant, and code-compliant solution for both residential and commercial water distribution systems.

This elbow fitting is perfect for transitions where PEX-A and copper piping need to work together in the same system. On one side, the PEX-A connection installs quickly with an expansion tool and expansion rings. On the other, the female sweat end allows for a strong soldered connection to copper tubing.

Key Features

  • Size: 1 in. PEX-A x 1 in. Female Copper Sweat Elbow

  • Material: Lead-Free Brass, NSF certified for potable water applications

  • Standard: ASTM F1960, designed for cold expansion PEX installation

  • Connection Types:

    • PEX-A side: Cold expansion with expander tool and expansion rings

    • Copper side: Female sweat solder joint

  • Corrosion resistant and designed for long service life

  • Provides a strong, reliable, and leak-free 90° transition between PEX-A and copper systems

  • Suitable for residential and commercial plumbing projects

Installation Instructions

Step 1: Install the Copper Side First

  1. Cut the copper pipe clean and square.

  2. Clean both the pipe exterior and the fitting interior with emery cloth or a wire brush.

  3. Apply a thin coat of lead-free flux.

  4. Insert the copper pipe fully into the female sweat fitting.

  5. Heat the joint evenly with a propane torch. Apply lead-free solder until it flows around the joint.

  6. Allow the joint to cool naturally. Do not quench with water.

  7. Wipe off excess flux residue once cooled.

Step 2: Connect the PEX-A Side

  1. Cut the 1-inch PEX-A tubing squarely using a PEX cutter. Ensure it is free of burrs or deformities.

  2. Slide a 1-inch PEX expansion ring over the end of the tubing.

  3. Expand the tubing using a calibrated PEX expansion tool. Rotate the tool slightly between expansions for a uniform opening.

  4. Immediately insert the fitting’s PEX end into the expanded tubing until it seats fully against the fitting shoulder.

  5. Hold in place for a few seconds. The tubing will contract around the fitting, forming a secure, watertight seal.

Tips and Tricks for Best Results

  • Always solder copper first. Heat from the torch can damage PEX-A if installed prematurely.

  • Use only lead-free flux and solder for potable water applications.

  • Avoid overheating. Excessive heat can scorch the fitting or cause poor solder flow. Apply steady heat and let the solder wick naturally.

  • Clean thoroughly. Any oxidation, burrs, or leftover flux can compromise the joint. Take time to prep properly.

  • Do not rush the PEX contraction. Allow the tubing to naturally shrink over the fitting for the tightest seal.

  • Protect from flame. Keep PEX tubing and fittings far from any torch work.

  • Pressure test the system before putting it into service to confirm watertight performance.
