1/2 in. SCH-80 PVC Socket to Male NPT Threaded Tank Connector ASTM D2467 BulkHead Fitting Kit
Create a secure, serviceable 1/2-inch PVC connection through the wall of a tank, reservoir, container, or other liquid-holding vessel with this 247Garden 1/2 in. SCH-80 PVC Socket to Male NPT Threaded Tank Connector Bulkhead Fitting Kit.
This kit combines a 1/2-inch Schedule 80 PVC female adapter with a 1/2-inch Schedule 80 PVC male threaded tank connector. Together, the components provide a practical way to pass a 1/2-inch PVC connection through a tank wall while giving you a convenient socket connection on the inside of the tank.
The design is particularly useful when you need to connect additional 1/2-inch PVC pipe or fittings inside the tank rather than simply terminating the connection at the tank wall.

How the Kit Works
The tank connector creates the bulkhead connection through the tank wall. The included gaskets provide sealing surfaces around the tank wall, while the nut secures the connector in position.
On the outside of the tank, the 1/2-inch male NPT connection can be connected to compatible 1/2-inch FNPT PVC fittings, valves, adapters, or other threaded components.
On the inside of the tank, the female adapter can be threaded onto the tank connector. Because the female adapter has a 1/2-inch socket connection, you can solvent-weld standard 1/2-inch PVC pipe directly into the adapter.
This creates a transition from:
1/2 in. PVC Pipe inside tank → Slip Socket → Female Adapter → Male NPT Tank Connector → Tank Wall → External NPT Connection
This configuration gives you considerably more flexibility than a simple threaded bulkhead connection.
Why Have a 1/2-Inch PVC Pipe Connection Inside the Tank?
One of the main advantages of this kit is that the connection does not have to stop at the tank wall.
When a tank connector is installed by itself, you generally have a threaded connection available at the tank wall. However, many tank applications require the plumbing to extend farther into the tank.
The included female adapter provides a convenient 1/2-inch socket where you can connect PVC pipe directly.
For example, you can install a section of 1/2-inch PVC pipe inside the tank to:
-
Extend the water inlet or outlet farther into the tank
-
Position an intake or discharge point at a specific location
-
Connect an internal water distribution line
-
Route water toward the bottom or another area of the tank
-
Connect an internal manifold or multiple fittings
-
Create an internal pickup or return line
-
Keep the external plumbing layout simple while managing the plumbing inside the tank
This is especially useful when the tank connection needs to serve a specific location rather than simply allowing water to pass immediately through the wall.
Internal Pipe Extensions Give You More Installation Options
The ability to solvent-weld PVC pipe into the socket gives you a permanent and customizable connection.
For example, if the tank wall connection is located several inches above the bottom of the tank, an internal 1/2-inch PVC pipe can be connected to the socket and extended downward. This allows the plumbing connection to reach a lower point inside the tank without requiring the tank connector itself to be positioned at the bottom.
Likewise, an internal pipe can be routed horizontally or vertically depending on the application.
This makes the kit useful for custom tank plumbing where the location of the bulkhead hole and the desired internal pipe location are not exactly the same.
Typical Applications
This 1/2-inch SCH-80 PVC tank connector kit can be used for a variety of plumbing and fluid-handling applications, including:
-
Water storage tanks
-
Reservoirs
-
Irrigation tanks
-
Hydroponic reservoirs
-
Aquaponic systems
-
Agricultural water systems
-
Filtration systems
-
Pump connections
-
Liquid storage containers
-
Water distribution systems
-
Custom tank plumbing
-
Equipment and process tanks
The exact suitability depends on the tank material, liquid being handled, temperature, pressure, and installation method.
Schedule 80 PVC Construction
Schedule 80 PVC provides a thicker wall and robust construction compared with Schedule 40 PVC. The components in this kit are designed for demanding PVC plumbing applications where a durable threaded connection is desired.
The components are manufactured to the ASTM D2467 fitting standard as applicable to the listed Schedule 80 PVC components.
Bulkhead Installation
To install the tank connector, drill an appropriately sized hole through the tank wall for the tank connector. Install the connector with the appropriate gasket arrangement on the tank wall, then tighten the included nut to secure the fitting.
Do not overtighten the nut. Excessive tightening can deform the gasket, damage the tank wall, or compromise the seal.
Once the bulkhead connector is secured, install the female adapter onto the appropriate threaded side and connect 1/2-inch PVC pipe into the adapter's socket using an appropriate PVC solvent cement system.
Always verify the compatibility of the cement, primer, pipe, fittings, tank material, gasket material, and liquid being handled before installation.
A Practical Solution for Custom Tank Plumbing
The advantage of this kit is its combination of a tank-wall bulkhead connection and an internal 1/2-inch PVC socket.
Instead of being limited to a threaded connection directly at the tank wall, you can build a complete PVC assembly inside the tank. This makes it easier to position an inlet, outlet, intake, return line, or distribution pipe exactly where your application requires it.
For custom tank plumbing, that extra connection point can make installation significantly easier and give you more flexibility when designing the system.
Important Installation Note
This fitting kit is intended for compatible 1/2-inch PVC plumbing applications. Always select pipe, fittings, sealants, adhesives, and installation methods according to the pressure, temperature, chemical compatibility, and service requirements of the system.
The tank wall itself must also be strong enough to support the fitting and the connected plumbing. For applications involving vibration, unsupported pipe weight, pumps, or significant mechanical loads, properly support the connected piping rather than allowing the tank wall to carry the entire load.
