Overview

This guide explains how to build a durable, effective PVC gutter cleaner that connects directly to a standard garden hose. The design uses 247Garden’s high-quality SCH-40 and SCH-80 PVC fittings to create a high-pressure sprayer wand for cleaning gutters from the ground or on a ladder.

Tools Required

  • Power drill with 1/16" or 1/8" drill bit (for sprayer holes)
  • PVC pipe cutter or hand saw
  • Measuring tape and marker
  • Work gloves and eye protection

Assembly Instructions

1. Cut the Wand to Desired Length

  • Measure and cut your 3/4 in. SCH-40 PVC pipe to 3 to 5 feet depending on the height of your gutters.
  • Cut a 3 to 6 inch length of 1/2 in. SCH-40 PVC pipe for the spray tip.

2. Attach Hose Adapter

  • Connect the 3/4 in. SCH-80 PVC Female Adapter with Brass Threaded Fitting to one end of the pipe.
  • Apply PTFE tape to the brass thread before attaching the garden hose during use.
  • Apply PVC primer and cement to all socket connections to ensure a watertight, secure fit.

3. Install the Shut-Off Valve

  • Attach the 3/4 in. SCH-40 PVC Ball Valve to the other end of the wand.
  • Make sure the handle is oriented for easy thumb control during operation.
  • Use primer and cement for a secure joint.

4. Add Elbow Fittings

  • Connect the 3/4 in. 90-Degree Elbow to the outlet side of the valve.
  • Then attach the 3/4 in. x 1/2 in. Reducing Elbow to angle the wand upwards and reduce the outlet size for increased spray pressure.

5. Build the Sprayer Tip

  • Insert the short 1/2 in. PVC pipe into the reducing elbow.
  • Cap it with the 1/2 in. PVC End Plug.
  • Drill 3 to 6 small holes (1/16" to 1/8") in the cap—some at the end for direct spray and others angled downward to flush debris out of the gutter.

6. Final Assembly

  • Double-check that all joints are fully glued with PVC cement and set for the manufacturer’s recommended cure time before use.
  • Ensure all fittings are aligned properly and securely seated.

Operation Instructions

  1. Connect the brass-threaded female adapter to a standard garden hose.
  2. Turn on water at the source.
  3. Use the ball valve to control water pressure while cleaning.
  4. Hold the wand up into the gutter and flush debris out with the built-in sprayer tip.

Important Notes

  • Always use PVC primer and cement on all non-threaded connections for leak prevention and long-term durability.
  • Drill holes carefully to control spray pattern and water force.
  • Optional: You can paint the wand or add a grip for comfort and visibility.
